Trying to set up Home Theater in Apt. Need suggestions for speakers and projector.?
I will need to watch a lot of movies for school. My Toshiba TV sucks. I want to get a projector. I have done a lot of research but feel stuck and pressured by sales people. Looking to spend around a grand on speakers and projector.
Can I wait on getting a screen and just use walls?
Whats the best projector - dlp vs. lcd for an apt where the wall opposite projecting wall is a window? Are Epson, Infocus, and Optima really the best or are there brands Im missing?
What speakers are best for an apartment?
Whats the best projector to get to use with cable/laptop/video games? Is wireless that big of a deal?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Do I really need 2000 lumens?

The guy above me is nuts. You will pay a lot LESS for a projector with the same picture quality as a regular TV. Plus, you can make it as big as you want, and since it’s portable, even take it outside for an outdoor movie experience.
You can wait on the screen, but the picture will be noticeably better with a screen. You can actually build one VERY easily for less than $100. Email me for instructions if you like.
It’s funny you mention those 3 brands as I have one of each and like them all. For your apt however I’d stick with either the In focus or Optoma as the Epson’s tend to have HUGE pictures. Check out the 3 below. You can’t go wrong with either of them and NO you don’t need anywhere near 2000 lumen’s. 900 -1200 should be plenty, even with enough ambient light to read by.

I’d also recommend you do NOT get your pj from a dealer. Just order from the net and save some $$$. http://www.tigerdirect.com usually has some pretty good deals on both new and refurbished pj’s.
Go pod luck with your setup and feel free to email any other questions if you like.
I’m not sure why you’d want to go with a projector rather than a decent flat screen TV. The projector will cost you significanly more for the same picture quality.
But, assuming you have your reasons (maybe you just don’t like a big screen in your room when not watching), than go for the DLP over the LCD. It will provide a much clearer picture. And yes, you really need 2000 lumens, unless you want to turn the lights out every time you watch.
If your walls are white (really white, not some off shade) then they will work fine as a screen. But if not, if they are some shade of cream or eggshell or beige or some other typical apartment color, then that color will affect your pictures color balance. If you need to watch a lot of movies, I assume your a film student, and the quality of the picture will matter to you. Get a screen for the best picture.
